GOP resolution promoting economic development signed by Governor

RENTON, N.J. – The governor signed a measure Monday designating an annual New Jersey Economic Development Day on the second Monday of May. Assemblymen Edward Thomson and Sean Kean, and Assemblywoman BettyLou DeCroce sponsored the resolution (SJR72/AJR139) promoting job creation and business growth.

“This creates an annual reminder that investing in business owners can help grow small companies and spark job creation,” said Thomson (R-Monmouth). “It’s time for Trenton to stop taxing business out of the state. Linking government development programs with private-sector stimulus efforts, we can develop new efficiencies from existing tax revenue.”

Kean said New Jersey can support business by better utilizing its many competitive advantages.

“The business environment in this state is notorious,” said Kean (R-Monmouth). “We are consistently ranked the worst in the nation. A variety of incentives, workforce development and economic programs are available to help employers. We have tremendous resources in New Jersey that could be enhanced and better coordinated to stimulate economic growth and job creation.”

“Economic Development Day will embody the state’s business-supporting efforts,” said DeCroce (R-Morris). “We can increase our return on investment by combining and leveraging economic development funding. Coordinated efforts will provide jobs, increase revenue and improve New Jersey’s fiscal health.”
